CAES public relations coordinators, based on the Athens, Griffin and Tifton campuses, share news about CAES and UGA Extension with both internal and external audiences.
Our writers relay scientific and technical information from CAES scientists and Extension specialists to farmers, agricultural businesses and consumers through newspapers, television shows, radio spots, websites and magazines. They also highlight the college's outreach and community-building efforts across the state.
News stories about the college and UGA Extension are shared on a daily and weekly basis with an audience of more than 1,000 consumers and members of the media through the CAES Media News Wire. Their stories also appear in the college's magazine, Southscapes, in UGA's faculty and staff newspaper, Columns, and college and as university and college website features.
CAES public relations coordinators also manage media requests and connect reporters with CAES and Extension experts. They prepare faculty to work with the media, offering one on one coaching, media relations trainings, and advice on an as-needed basis.
Publications and Editing
The managing editor for UGA Extension publications reviews all faculty-submitted research that is written to be used and understood by the public before they are designed and then published on the web. In addition to more than 900 publications that can be viewed and downloaded for free, UGA Extension offers several high-quality publications for purchase through OCCS. Faculty should review the publishing guidelines and process on the CAES Intranet.
Southscapes, the CAES alumni magazine, is managed and produced by OCCS through our editorial and design team.
Our editors also review all news, marketing materials and other information disseminated through official college channels. OCCS uses the Associated Press (AP) style for all news and marketing communications. Publications follow APA style.
